Global Warming

One evening as I was talking to my 60 year old granny, who was complaining about rising temperature and disturbed monsoon it set me thinking about the pace at which we are heading towards global warming.

Global Warming is something produced by humans for humans leading to devastating consequences for our planet Earth.

It is primarily a problem of too much of CO2 in the atmosphere which acts as a blanket trapping heat and warming the planet. As we burn fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas for energy or cut down trees for pastures and plantations carbon accumulates and overloads our atmosphere.

Certain waste management and agricultural practices aggravate the problems by releasing other warming gases such as methane and nitrous oxide.

Rise in sea levels worldwide is a major effect which poses threat to human inhabitation in the coastal areas. Some of the islands might also get submerged over a period of time.

The story of Maldives is a global concern. Severe storms such as hurricanes and cyclones are also increasing. Most of the continents are experiencing massive crop failure. Global warming is resulting in climatic change which is expected to have the most severe impact in water supplies. In future it is likely to threaten food production, reduce sanitation, hinder economic development and damage may also cause violent swings between floods and droughts. Rising temperatures could also lead to the extinction of more than a million species of wildlife. Which is again a threat to us as we cannot exist without diverse population. Researchers are also of the view that coral population may also collapse. Now the situation is alarming and it is high time that we as global citizens take initiatives to reduce our carbon footprints and save this planet. Let us opt for public transportation, go in for battery operated or CNG run vehicles as there is no carbon emission. Use of 5 star rated energy efficient appliances can also serve this purpose to a great extent.

Since our selfish and thoughtless act is responsible for global warming let every global citizen take up the responsibility of global cooling by at least planting a sapling.

Thank you for your valuable time.
